I Can See Clearly Now

How many times have we said to ourselves, or others, “I just can’t see my way to doing…whatever it was that we were contemplating?” If we add in all those around us who have voiced the same feeling, it’s a pretty safe assumption that we have heard the phrase quite a number of times. Often, more often than we care to admit, life deals us blows that leave us confused and in pain. We feel bad and we wonder if we will ever get through it all, The obstacles seem to be insurmountable …. But read on.

Most people will recognize the title above as a Jimmy Cliff song:

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

I can see all obstacles in my way.

Gone are the dark clouds that had me down.

It’s gonna be a bright, bright, bright, sun shiny day.

Oh yes, I can make it now the pain is gone.

All the bad feelings have disappeared.

Here is the rainbow I’ve been praying for.

It’s gonna’ be a bright, bright, bright sun shiny day.

Look around there’s nothing but blue skies.

Look straight ahead there’s nothing but blue skies.

In these words we will find the hope we need for the future, the questions that we need to ask ourselves in that time we feel at our lowest.

How can we see clearly, see through the rain and clouds of our lives? How can we get rid of the bad feelings and the pain, find that rainbow, make our life so that we see those blue skies around and ahead of us?

With Open Eyes, An Open Mind, And An Open Heart.

That’s how we can see clearly. Now we will explore those three ways of seeing clearly, putting life in focus, finding blue skies and bright sunny days.

1) With Open Eyes: Look for the opportunities life offers, don’t let the dark clouds and driving rain blind you. Look for new roads to travel, new ventures, people and experiences. Expand your horizons. If you open your eyes, they will present themselves to you. You will begin to clear away the dark clouds (doubts and fears) in your life.

2) With Open Mind: Cast out your old ideas. Don’t just file them away, dismiss them because they don’t fit your new ways of thinking. Allow those new thoughts into your mind, If you want to roll away the clouds, start changing what’s in your mind. This will lead to

speaking new thoughts and ideas, that will create actions and …………. “Actions speak louder than words.” It all starts with an open mind and a willingness to receive new ideas.

3) With Open Heart: This is the most important. If we don’t have an open heart then our eyes and our minds are closed. Many of us have closed our hearts because of the hurts, both real and perceived, that life has dealt us We must learn to draw a “line in the sand,” allow our hearts to open. Yes, we will become vulnerable to the hurts of life, but we will also experience its joys. When we accept that all life is full of ups and downs we can open our hearts and the ups will begin to outweigh the downs.

Following these steps, we will, as in the Jimmy Cliff song, look around us, see those blue skies and experience ……………….

A Bright, Bright, Bright Sun Shiny Day
